What is so fascinating about this image is that we see a progression of how modernity is impacting lives of native nations. I’m not sure if this was intentional on the photographers part. notice the defiant gaze of the man on the left, wrapped in a blanket, opting for traditional aesthetics, he’s in stark contrast with the man on the far right, who seems to have embraced a “modern look”. Note the image source, I’ve recently realized that there are tons of images that have been shared through social media from people’s private collections. Early photographed images of Native subjects tend to be held in private or institutional collections. Instagram has become a random source of finding amazing images such as this one.
